Boiler Repair & Installation in Homer Glen, IL

Boiler maintenance, repairs, installation and sales for radiator and hydronic heat in the southwest suburbs, with Justin and the crew on call around the clock.

Cold radiators, falling pressure and a pump that will not circulate

A boiler that fails rarely hides it. Radiators stay cold or warm only at the top, the pressure gauge drifts down or climbs too high, water shows up at a valve or fitting, the pipes knock with trapped air, or the burner locks out and will not restart. Each of those is a different problem, and a heating system that moves water needs a tech who follows the water to find it.

The circulator pump moves hot water from the boiler out through the loops, so when the boiler fires but the radiators stay cold, the pump is an early suspect. So are an air lock in the piping, a stuck zone valve and a failed thermostat call. If pressure keeps falling, there is a leak somewhere in the system or a problem with the expansion tank. Finding which one is the job.

Boilers quit when the weather is at its worst, so Climaxx keeps the line open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, at (708) 717-2772. We service boiler systems in Homer Glen, Lockport, Lemont, Palos Hills, Orland Hills and the surrounding towns. Tell us what the boiler and radiators are doing, what the gauge reads, and we will work out the safest next step together.

Boiler efficiency by age: the numbers behind the replacement question

Boilers lose efficiency as they age, and our own rule-of-thumb figures show how. A boiler over 25 years old is roughly 60 to 70% efficient. At 20 years old it is about 75% efficient. At 15 years old it runs 80 to 85% efficient, and a boiler that is 10 or more years old also sits in that 80 to 85% range. The older the boiler, the more of the fuel you pay for never turns into heat.

Put plainly, a 25-year-old boiler may send a third or more of its fuel up the stack, while a boiler in the 80 to 85% range wastes closer to a sixth. Those percentages are not a verdict on any one boiler, but they do tell you why a very old unit gets more expensive to keep running even when it still heats the house.

Age is only part of the picture. Yearly maintenance and clean and checks play a big role in efficiency, so a well-kept boiler often outperforms a neglected one of the same age. Climaxx can look at your boiler's age, condition and service history and tell you where it sits, whether that means keeping it tuned up or starting to plan for a new one.

Yearly clean and check, and planning a replacement before it plans you

A boiler clean and check is a yearly visit, ideally before the first cold snap. The tech inspects the burner and heat exchanger, checks the water pressure and expansion tank, tests the circulator and safety controls, bleeds air where needed and looks over the flue and visible piping. Catching a weeping valve or a tired pump in the fall is a scheduled visit, not a 2 a.m. emergency.

Replacement is easiest when you choose the timing. A boiler with an old heat exchanger or repeated repair calls is better swapped in a mild stretch than on the coldest night of the winter, when everyone else needs one too. We will walk through what the system does now, what the near-boiler piping needs, and how a new unit would tie into your existing radiators or floor loops.

Climaxx offers boiler maintenance, repairs, installation and sales, plus the piping and radiant heat work that often goes with them. One customer wrote that Justin took the time to explain everything clearly and made sure the job was done right, and that is how we handle a heating system you depend on. Ask about the boilers we sell when you call.
